Margaret River 0, Dunsborough 4
A revitalised Dunsborough Towners reserve side returned to the winner’s list with a comfortable 4-0 win over Reserve league cellar dwellers Margaret River at Gloucester Park on Sunday. But for the first 20 minutes it was Margaret River’s young brigade that looked the more composed and created major problems to Dunsborough’s defence without actually presenting a significant threat in attack. The first-half had little to recommend it until late in the half when a bending shot from Towners midfielder Jake Smith sped past the upright. Then in the 39th minute Keiron McCabe found himself through with an open goal at his mercy from close range when he appeared to be dragged back forcing his shot to graze the outside of the post with calls for penalty falling on deaf ears.

The cultured left foot of Sebastian Kovacs and the aerial skills of Richard Olsen inspired the Dunsborough Towner to a remarkable comeback in an epic 5-5 encounter with Bunbury Dynamo in a Premier League football clash at the Dunsborough Playing Fields on Sunday.
In fact their were two Towner comebacks in the match, the second the more incredible because it was accomplished with only ten men after star striker Graeme Copeman was red carded for retaliation early in the second half. The Towners were looking at a whitewash for the club after the women’s team had been beaten 6-0 by Dynamo followed by a 6-2 hammering of the men’s reserve side. For Dunsborough the Premier league game ran the gamut of emotions from despair to hope, to elation and finally disappointment.

The Dunsborough Towners suffered a major setback in their Premier League Reserves campaign when they were hammered 6-2 by Bunbury Dynamo at the Dunsborough Playing Fields on Sunday.
The week before they had registered a meritorious 2-1 win over the same side in the first round of the South West Times knockout cup, and while the Towners struggled late on they demonstration resolution in defence. This time there was little resistance and Dynamo outplayed Dunsborough in every facet of the game. The Towners virtually gifted five of the goals to the opposition with slack marking, poor options on the ball and a defence that played far too square allowing Dynamo the luxury of sliding round the back for free shots on goal. Goalkeeper Paul Andrews did well on many occasions but too often was left exposed with little hope of preventing the avalanche.

A tired Dunsborough surprised themselves to some degree when they faced a fresh Bunbury Dynamno in the South West Times Premier league reserve cup first round and manufactured a 2-1 win at the Dunsborough Playing Fields on Monday.
They had already fought out an energy sapping 2-2 draw with Eaton in a Premier League reserve match the day before. There were few reserves to call on unless it was from players selected to appear in the first team in the following match. There was little in the contest in the first-half until the 35th minute when young Aiden Greig took the responsibility to strike a 20 metre free kick that sailed over the Eaton defensive wall and curved past a bemused Eaton goalkeeper.

The Dunsborough Towners appeared set for victory when they scored two early goals in their Premier League reserves clash with Eaton at the Dunsborough Paying Fields on Sunday.
But just as quickly Eaton brought the Towners crashing back to earth with two goals of their own in a tough 2-2 draw. At this early stage the oemsn were there for a high scoring encounter with both sidssz throwing caution to the wind an attacking at every opportunity.

Dunsborough 2 (Jake Thompson, Clint Thompson), Collie 1 Match Photos: Click Here The Dunsborough Towners regained their composure with a solid 2-1 win over Collie in the second round of the South West Association’s Premier League Reserves competition in Collie on Sunday. The return of many players to the club after as many 11 were absent from the first round for various reasons provided the coaches with a selection smorgasbord. With the Premier League first team close to full strength the reserves benefited with a vast improvement in playing strength. The presence of the Thompson brother Clint and Jake was a big plus and it was a telling factor in the 11th minute when Clint was the provider with a long cross that found Jake close in to turn home for the early lead. For much of the first-half it was the dominance of the Towners that constantly threatened to provide them with a comfortable half-time lead. Youngster Kaden Heathcoate was menacing with his speed down the right wing, Richard Olsen played carefully as he tested out his knee but was always threatening while Thompson always looked capable of a second goal.

The Dunsborough Towners Premier League Reserves put up a gritty performance against the odds on the opening day of the 2009 South West Football season when they succumbed to a 3-0 loss to Bunbury United at the Soccerdrome in Bunbury last Sunday. The loss of 11 senior players for various reasons forced the Towners to field a side made up mostly of veterans and juniors. It was clear from the start that it would be a back to the walls confrontation with Bunbury able to call on a full roster of players with rotating substitutions. The Towners substitution bench consisted of first team players who were required for the Premier League encounter in the following match.

Dunsborough 3 beat Dalyellup 1
The introduction of former State and East Fremantle Tricolore striker Mike Smith was a surprise inclusion in the Dunsborough Towners Reserve side that defeated Dalyellup 3-1 at Dalyellup on Sunday. Smith, who at 50 years of age has just competed for Australia in a veteran’s tournament in Asia, was one of the potent goalscorers in Perth’s State league 20 years ago.

The Dunsborough Towners Reserves’ claim that of the two men’s teams in the club they are the ones who play champagne football.
It may not have risen to that level on Sunday but the goalless draw they forced with Bunbury United in the Prremier League Reserve competition at the Soccerdrome on Sunday will go down as one their best for the season. Page 1 of 4 |
