Reserves through to next round of cupMonday, 27 April 2009 00:00 A tired Dunsborough surprised themselves to some degree when they faced a fresh Bunbury Dynamno in the South West Times Premier league reserve cup first round and manufactured a 2-1 win at the Dunsborough Playing Fields on Monday. They had already fought out an energy sapping 2-2 draw with Eaton in a Premier League reserve match the day before. There were few reserves to call on unless it was from players selected to appear in the first team in the following match. There was little in the contest in the first-half until the 35th minute when young Aiden Greig took the responsibility to strike a 20 metre free kick that sailed over the Eaton defensive wall and curved past a bemused Eaton goalkeeper. Five minutes later Dynamo came close to levelling the scores with a shot that struck the post. Dynamo, who looked dangerous in the closing minutes of the first-half, was a far more dangerous outfit in the second-half and came close on a number of occasions including a shot that hit both posts as the ball screwed across the goalmouth. It also took a number of fine reflex saves from goalkeeper Paul Andrews to preserve Dunsborough’s lead. But he had no answer to Dynamo’s equaliser when he was left stranded by a defense that hesitated waiting for an offside whistle that never came in the 76th minute. A short while later, against the run of play, an Aiden Greig through ball found Jake Thompson who bustled his way past the Dynamo defence to release a looping shot over the Dynamo goalkeeper to find the far top corner of the net. Again it was Dynamo searching for an equaliser but it was the Towners who held firm over the agonising final ten minutes to advance to the next round. |
