Dynamos demolish Duns ReservesSunday, 03 May 2009 19:00 The Dunsborough Towners suffered a major setback in their Premier League Reserves campaign when they were hammered 6-2 by Bunbury Dynamo at the Dunsborough Playing Fields on Sunday. The week before they had registered a meritorious 2-1 win over the same side in the first round of the South West Times knockout cup, and while the Towners struggled late on they demonstration resolution in defence. This time there was little resistance and Dynamo outplayed Dunsborough in every facet of the game. The Towners virtually gifted five of the goals to the opposition with slack marking, poor options on the ball and a defence that played far too square allowing Dynamo the luxury of sliding round the back for free shots on goal. Goalkeeper Paul Andrews did well on many occasions but too often was left exposed with little hope of preventing the avalanche. However, the game could have been very different had three gilt edged chances in two minutes at the ninth minute mark been taken with only goalkeeper John Malfiore to beat. Dynamo, on the other hand, didn’t look a gift horse in the mouth and in the 14th minute Cory Hicks found himself alone with metres of space to take his time and slot home. Almost immediately a mishit back pass from captain-coach Iain Greig left Andrews in a hopeless position as he tried to close down the danger only for Brendon Offer to reach the ball first and roll it into the net. Six minutes later it took a superb save from Maliore to deny Daril Slack narrowing the gap for the Towners. Offer once again was alert to Dunsborough’s vulnerability in defence and a long through ball past an advanced square back line allowed him to run on and provide a commanding lead at half time. The introduction of Tony Plumb and Jake Finney after the break added steel to the Towner’s defence, but it was in attack where Plumb made his immediate impact scoring with a header in the 52nd minute. The ray of hope this breakthrough provided was snuffed out two minutes later when the defence again allowed Dynamo space to get in behind for a one on one with Andrews to add to their score. Hicks scored his second in the 65th minute, this time from a well worked goal before Dunsborough managed to breach the Dynamo defence in the 77th minute for Aiden Greig to time his run perfectly to beat Malfiore. With the final whistle about to blow Dynamo added to Dunsborough’s misery with an uncontested left wing run that ended with a blistering shot that sped inside the near post.
